Whether you’re a pro surfer or just joined us, you’re at a great place to earn extra cash on the side and make a difference in the world. To refresh for veteran CrowdSurfers and inform the new: here are tips and reminders about the CrowdSurf experience:

CrowdSurf provides on-demand transcription and captioning services that make online media like videos more accessible and enjoyable for hard of hearing and second language users. Everyone will gain experience on the job because we’ll provide you all the training and support you need to start.

 

 

This sounds interesting… but how does it all work?
First, you’ll sign up on Work Market, where we hire and pay all CrowdSurfers. Afterward, you’ll take a brief assessment to join the CrowdSurf group for us to gauge which level and HITs you’ll start off with.

 

Hold up, what’s a HIT?
No, it’s not how many likes your song got on Youtube. HIT stands for Human Intelligence Task. Each one is a 15-35 second video file that requires either a Clean Verbatim transcript, recording everything you hear EXCEPT the ums, ahs, and any word fillers you hear, or a True Verbatim transcript, recording everything you hear INCLUDING the ums, ahs, and any other word fillers you can think of. Once you submit your transcript, it gets reviewed by a higher-level CrowdSurfer and compiled with the other HITs to put together an even bigger, longer video file.

Okay, but what if the HIT’s quality isn’t that great?
We understand that some media content can be difficult to work through. After you’ve worked through challenging HITs and you feel the score you received on your work kept you from making your weekly bonus, please email us and we can always review your work and the HIT and look into reversing your score. We also have a wide array of content that is not only acceptable but can fulfill different interests!

As a CrowdSurfer, you’re receiving instant income as soon as you submit a HIT and is graded, flexibility as you work based on your busy schedule, and personal fulfillment, knowing you’re helping an entire community get access to popular content.
